Minjee Lee joins Mike Clayton and Mark Allen on AO Radio last year.
Melbourne sports radio station 1116 SEN has joined forces with Golf Australia’s popular AO Radio concept to expand its reach.
SEN will facilitate production of the broadcast which fans will be able to hear via the Emirates Australian Open or SEN apps and the mobile-friendly Emirates Australian Open website at www.ausopengolf.com when it roars back to life on November 17.
SEN will help provide on-air talent and has committed to simulcast large components of AO Radio into Melbourne free to air on tournament weekend.
Fans coming to Royal Sydney are asked to bring their own earphones so they can listen via their smartphone as they watch play. Golf Australia will also distribute earphones to fans on course for free.
Golf Australia head of media and digital John Sutherland said it was pleasing to have AO Radio’s audience increase each year.
“The show has grown in popularity since 2014 and now feels like it is an integral part of the event. To be lucky enough to partner with SEN and be heard by thousands more people on and off course is a great thing for golf in this country,” Sutherland said.
Former touring professional and SEN drive-time host Mark Allen was thrilled to be part of the tournament again.
“SEN sees the potential of the golf radio product and it’s one of many things we’d like to work on with Golf Australia in the future,” he said.
“Our on-air team is made up of golf lovers across the board, so we really just want to see the sport given exposure and play our part in that.”
The AO Radio team comprises Mark Allen, Daniel Harford, Andy Maher, Mark Hayes, Martin Blake, Mike Clayton, John Huggan and Matt Cutler with a mixture of studio guests and live on-course action.
Sutherland said the radio feed was available to any public radio stations nationally who wish to take it (Victoria and NSW excluded). Please contact Golf Australia if interested.
Broadcast hours are from 11am-4pm Thursday and Friday and 12-5pm on Saturday and Sunday (all times AEST).
The 2016 Emirates Australian Open will be played at the Royal Sydney Golf Club from November 17-20.
